A painting you can hear.
ChallengeWhat did the museum want to achieve?
In a museum, the original is the focus. The Kunstpalast wanted to open up a new, surprising way into a painting by Wassily Kandinsky for visitors – and make a further dimension of art tangible: hearing.
IdeaHow was the touchpoint used for it?
Kandinsky was able to connect colours and shapes with sounds. This particular perception became the starting point of the experience: the painting itself becomes the entry point to an audiovisual interpretation. For this, the snoop it! technology was integrated via SDK directly into the Kunstpalast app – making it part of the museum's existing digital experience.
ExperienceWhat do visitors experience?
Visitors point their smartphone at the painting. On the display, shapes and colour fields detach from the original, move and come together anew. At the same time, the artwork is interpreted musically: musicians of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker translate Kandinsky's colours and shapes into sound. Right in front of the original, an immersive connection of image, movement and music emerges.
ImpactWhat did the museum gain from it?
With the experience, the Kunstpalast creates a new way into Kandinsky's work: the original remains untouched, while the digital layer opens up an additional perception. Art becomes visible and audible at the same time – right in front of the original and integrated into the museum's own app.
